JESUIT SOCIAL SERVICES - MOVING FROM THE EDGE PUBLICATION DESIGN
Moving from the Edge: Stories of achieving greater social inclusion.
Professor Tony Vinson, whose previous studies have influenced State and Federal governmental policy, personalises and discusses the issues of social inclusion in this Jesuit Social Services publication.
It contains honest reflections from people who have transitioned from social exclusion to inclusion, and aims to remind it's readers that behind each statistic about social exclusion lies a person – a unique and valuable human being with hopes and aspirations; a person often facing daunting barriers to their full flourishing as human beings and citizens.
This important subject matter called for effective and sensitive design. A cover design not overwhelmed by elaborate decorative elements which would threaten to detract from it's important content and credibility.
But effective and striking design need not be over the top and this can clearly be seen by the clean design and simple type created by Studio Equator. Although pared back, the graphical language remained bold, direct and easy to read, with the colours remaining those associated with the Jesuit Social Services group.
The resulting publication design is one that will stand out on a shelf or table as being contemporary and relevant.
Moving from the Edge: Stories of achieving greater social inclusion was launched by Victorian Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Rob Hulls on 20 October 2010.
